Imagiam is a software application that creates 3D images with the help of lenticular lenses. It is available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux operating systems. Imagiam may be used to create 3D pictures for posters, greeting cards, brochures or other printed media. Lenticular printing is a process that creates the illusion of depth by showing sequential pictures of different depths on top of one another. Lenticular lenses are thin plastic sheets with rows of cylindrical lenses on them. The lens at the bottom focus light from the top of the lens and the lens at the top focuses light from below. Since we see more light coming from below than above as we look at an object, there is more contrast around where we expect edges to be. This gives objects a 3D appearance as seen in this image:Imagiam can be used to create lenticular images by taking a picture of each perspective of an object and then stitching them together into one .PNG (portable network graphics) image and putting it on a lenticular sheet. Imagiam is supported by free online tutorials, with most of the material coming from the Imagination Institute. It can also be used to create 3D renders for websites or other uses. The user can import .BLEND files into the program, define the depth of each part of the scene and then export it as an .OBJ (obj) file, which can then be imported into other programs like Blender. Imagiam has built in shaders that can be assigned to parts of an object, allowing it to cast shadows on itself. For instance, a scene could be scattered with many spheres with a texture of black shadow on them. The spheres would not cast any shadows on themselves, but if an object passed across their faces they would cast a shadow onto themselves, thereby simulating shading. It is also possible to use Imagiam as a 3D animation tool. The user can place animation nodes on objects, create animations with key frames and looping them by using the layer functionality. Imagiam has a number of rendering effects for creating lenticular images.
